Although not technically a SARM, Cardarine (GW-501516) is often lumped with other SARMs due to the fact that it has similar effects. Instead of interacting with the androgen receptor, it interacts with the Peroxisome proliferator-actives receptor (a receptor which is involved in lipid metabolism) and 5’ AMP-activated protein kinase (an enzyme that plays an important role in energy homeostasis within cells).

Initial research on Cardarine showed that it may be able to alter abnormalities in pre-diabetic people, and with more than 30% of the adult population and over 15% of the child population in the USA considered clinically obese, Cardarine can be considered as a potential treatment. More trials on this SARM carried out on monkeys and rats showed a plethora of positive benefits, including increased muscle mass, decreased fat mass, elimination of diet-induced type II diabetes, increase in HDL and decrease in LDL.

Although it does have plenty of positive aspects, it was discovered in several studies that high dosages for long periods may cause cancer. This is contradictory to what was found in other studies – studies that marked Cardarine as completely harmless due to the fact that it doesn’t negatively impact the HPTA, nor does it induce the side effects commonly seen when taking other SARMs and/or anabolic steroids.

In addition to this, it also decreased bone turnover rate and is therefore a potential treatment for those suffering from osteoporosis.

In terms of side effects, Lignadrol does not appear to lower gonadotropins (LH and FSH) or increase either PSA or estrogen levels, however it is capable of decreasing total and free testosterone levels, therefore a full post cycle therapy using SERMs is highly required. At doses of 5mg or less per day will decrease testosterone levels yet it will stay within the normal range, however doses above 5mg will decrease testosterone to below normal levels and may also decrease HDL levels significantly.

Before using any SARM it is important that you carry out full research on the compound(s) you intend to use. Although they typically have fewer side effects than anabolic steroids, they should not be taken lightly and still do have some negative effects.
